Stage 13 of the Greater Manchester Ringway - a tough point-to-point from Bury to Bromley Cross (on the edge of Bolton). The opening 6k is relatively flat as the route threads out of Bury, before a sustained 230-metre climb onto the West Pennine Moors brings you to the high point of 337 metres around the halfway mark. The descent is long and rolling, crossing moorland and reservoir country before dropping into Bromley Cross. At 18.7k with 555 metres of climbing, this is the most challenging stage in the social run calendar - remote, exposed, and rewarding. Point-to-point: transport between start and finish required.
This is one of the free running routes used by Run Together Radcliffe, a free running club meeting every Thursday at 7pm at Radcliffe Market. Everyone is welcome.
