Weekend Roundup - Saturday 19 September 2026
24 runners across 12 venues, plus Bury BID 10k and a completed Superhalfs series in Copenhagen.
🏃 Parkrun
A brilliant weekend all round - 24 of us out for Saturday's parkrun across 12 venues, followed by a busy Sunday of racing closer to home and much further afield.
Amager Strandpark
Julie Smith kicked off a huge weekend with a parkrun at Amager Strandpark in Copenhagen, a flat, two-lap loop around the lagoon with views out over the water towards Sweden - the perfect way to shake the legs out before Sunday's big event (more below!).
Bolton
Lewis Moore, Josh Young and Ros Dines all headed to Bolton, with Lewis first of the group home.
Burnley
Delphine Bugarel made the trip over to Burnley and put in a strong morning on the course.
Chadderton Hall
Kath Biddle had a good outing at Chadderton Hall.
Clarence
Paula Crosland was in excellent form at her regular Clarence, taking the top spot in her age category - a great start to a busy weekend for her.
Heaton
Six of the group lined up at Heaton. John Bradford was first of the group over the line, capping the morning with a personal best. Laura Tomkins ran brilliantly too, finishing 2nd in her age category. Aaron Stones had a fine run round, and Chris Grayshon, Paul Jenkinson and Anna Swailes were all out enjoying one of the group's regular Saturday haunts.
Horton Park
Angela Pradena took on Horton Park, exploring a course new to her.
Peel
Rachael Fiske had a good morning out at Peel.
Rother Valley
Andrew Button and Rachel Bailey brought some serious fun to Rother Valley, taking on the full 5k dressed as inflatable chickens - proof a parkrun morning doesn't have to be taken too seriously to be brilliant.
Sale Water
Derek and Fiona Case made their way round Sale Water together, keeping each other company for the whole morning.
South Manchester
Dale Richards ventured to South Manchester, ticking off a venue new to him.
Worsley Woods
Four of the group made the short trip to Worsley Woods. Michael Aiken led the way home and finished 3rd in his age category. Mark Taylor took a course personal best. Lucie Tighe matched her best ever time on the course and finished 2nd in her age category, and Tracy Wroe topped her age category too - a brilliant morning out for everyone there.
Away from the results tables, Stephen Crowe was volunteering at Roma Pineto parkrun in Rome while on holiday, helping sort tokens and keep the event running for the locals - a lovely way to spend a morning away, and a nice reminder of how far this group's parkrun spirit travels.
🏅 Races
Sunday 20 September
Bury BID 10k
A brilliant turnout from the group at this year's Bury Running Festival, with eleven of us lining up outside The Rock for the Bury BID 10k. The course made the most of the town, heading out through Tottington and along Bury Road before dropping onto the Kirklees Trail and its nature reserve, then looping back for a finish through streets lined with crowds and support all the way. Michael Aiken, Nick Coleman, Paula Crosland, Jamie Dobson, Kerry Evans, Alison Howarth, Neil Naisbitt, Dale Richards, Cheryl Stewardson and Aaron Stones all had a fantastic morning out on home roads, and Chris Mihalyi did a brilliant job pacing on the day too. For several of the group, this came hot on the heels of Saturday's parkrun too - a properly busy weekend of running all round.
Copenhagen Half Marathon
A huge weekend for Julie Smith in Copenhagen. After a parkrun at Amager Strandpark on Saturday to shake the legs out, she lined up for the Copenhagen Half Marathon on Sunday and crossed the finish line having completed the Superhalfs series - a brilliant achievement to cap off.
