Weekend Roundup - Saturday 5 September 2026

21 of us across 9 parkruns, 3 PBs, plus Monton, Blackpool and Wigan.

πŸƒ Parkrun

A proper spread of a Saturday morning, with 21 of us out at 9 different parkruns, from Moss Side and Worsley across to Liverpool and up into Wharfedale. Three PBs came home with us too, and that was before a busy week of racing either side of it. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Alexandra

Jamie Dobson and Aaron Stones headed over to Moss Side and both had a flying morning of it. Jamie was first back for the group and took a brand new personal best in the process, his fastest 5k anywhere. Aaron was close behind and going every bit as well.

Bolton

Julie Smith made the trip over to Bolton and had a really good morning of it.

Clarence

3 of us made the short trip to Clarence. Michael Aiken was first of ours over the line and well up the field, with Christopher Mihalyi running strongly behind him. Paula Crosland rounded things off with a lovely run and finished top of her age category on the day. πŸ‘

Croxteth Hall

Angela Pradena was our furthest west, out at Croxteth Hall Country Park in Liverpool, a mix of tarmac and trail paths winding through the old estate grounds. A grand morning's work out there.

East Holmes Field

Stephen Crowe took himself off to Ilkley for this one, a grass and trail course on the flat riverside meadows beside the Wharfe with Ilkley Moor rising up behind the town. A proper Yorkshire morning out, and as it turned out only the first half of his weekend.

Heaton

Our biggest turnout of the day, with 7 of us in Heaton Park. Paul Jenkinson led the way for the group and capped it with a new personal best, which after 129 visits to that course is a seriously good morning's work. Dale Richards and John Bradford were both going well behind him, Jacqui Warden and Rachael Fiske put in fine runs, and Gerard Tucker and Chris Grayshon rounded out the group nicely.

Peel

Delphine Bugarel and Tracy Wroe took on Peel together and both ran strongly through a busy field.

Stretford

Mark Taylor represented us at Stretford and put in a solid effort on a fast morning there.

Worsley Woods

Chris Chris was quickest of the group at Worsley Woods and took a course best on his 27th visit, which takes some doing on a course you know that well. Derek and Fiona Case ran the whole thing together and crossed the line a single second apart, which is about as neatly matched as it gets.

πŸ… Races

A busy week of it away from parkrun, spread right across the calendar.

Monday 31 August

Monton 5 Miler

A proper bank holiday institution over in Salford, run on closed roads around Monton and Eccles and one of those races that draws a big, friendly local field every August. Sarah Wilson took it on and did us proud out there. πŸ‘

Wednesday 2 September

Blackpool Night Run

One of the best nights on the running calendar. The route runs along the Promenade in the dark with the Illuminations switched on overhead, in aid of Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children's Hospice, and there is nothing else quite like it for atmosphere. John Bradford and Mark Taylor were both out under the lights and thoroughly enjoyed it by all accounts.

Sunday 6 September

Wigan 10k

A closed roads 10k starting in the town centre, with big crowds out along the way and a real town-wide feel to it. Dale Richards, Stephen Crowe and Steve Sweeney all took it on and represented the group brilliantly. Dale and Stephen had already been out on Saturday too, Dale at Heaton and Stephen all the way over in Ilkley, so it made for a full weekend of running for the pair of them.

From a lit-up Promenade on Wednesday night to the streets of Wigan this morning, with 9 parkruns in between. A cracking week for the group. πŸ’œπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ
