Weekend Roundup - Saturday 18 July 2026

Parkrun across 8 venues, a fell race, a 36-mile ultra, a 10k PB and the final leg of the Cotton Steel Trail.

🏃 Parkrun

Another lovely weekend of running for the group, with 25 members out on parkrun courses across 8 venues on Saturday.

Chadderton Hall

Julie Smith enjoyed a parkwalk around the course, sensibly keeping things easy with a bigger challenge waiting for her later in the day.

Clarence

Mark Taylor led the way for the group, with John Bradford, Paula Crosland, Lucie Tighe and Stephen Crowe all out too. Paula put in a course PB, while Lucie ran alongside her daughter Gracie, who celebrated her 25th parkrun today, a brilliant milestone. Lucie and Stephen kept things nice and steady, saving their legs for what was still to come that afternoon.

Heaton

Cheryl Stewardson was first back for the group, with Nick Coleman, Dale Richards, Stacey Wilde, Paul Cox, Paul Jenkinson, Lewis Moore, Josh Young and Chris Grayshon all putting in good efforts. Stacey notched up a course PB, and Angela Pradena and Tanja Brajkovic both had lovely parkwalks around the course.

Newborough Forest

Delphine Bugarel made the trip to this beautiful Anglesey course, where sandy woodland paths wind through fragrant pine forest just back from the dunes and beach at Llanddwyn.

Peel

Tracy Wroe was out flying the flag at Peel.

Philips Park

Aaron Stones smashed out a brand new personal best, with Christopher William Kinsey also putting in a strong run alongside him.

Plymvalley

Andrew and Alison Whitehead made a real trip of it down to Plymouth, taking on a course that winds through historic woodland along a narrow canal path, crossing under a striking old railway viaduct along the way.

Worsley Woods

Rachael Fiske and Chris Chris both had good outings around the woods.

🏅 Races

Saturday 18 July

Turnslack Fell Race

A proper Pennine classic near Littleborough, this 8-mile fell race climbs around 2,000ft through Calderbrook and was celebrating its 40th running this year, complete with the traditional spread of cakes waiting at the finish. Chris Mihalyi, Lucie Tighe, Stephen Crowe and Julie Smith all took it on, with three of them having eased through a low-key parkrun that same morning to save something for the climbs ahead.

Castle to Castle Ultra

An enormous 36-mile journey across Lancashire, starting at Clitheroe Castle and finishing at Lancaster Castle, with a 10-hour cutoff and mandatory kit for the conditions along the way. Kath Biddle took this one on solo, a huge effort of endurance and determination.

Sunday 19 July

Stockport 10k

A popular local road race through Stockport. John Bradford took on the 10k the day after his parkrun at Clarence, and came away with a new personal best.

🏕️ Trail / Social

Cotton Steel Trail

The group completed the final stage of this rail trail adventure, covering 14 miles from Hathersage to Sheffield. Well done to Paula Crosland, Nikki Carroll, Kate Myers and Paul Cox for finishing it off in style.
